FCR (standing for “Frequency Containment Reserve”) is the first Belgian electric reserve. The reserves - 3 in number - are implemented by the TSO, Elia, to balance the power grid.
FCR is used to automatically contain the frequency in case of deviations (due to imbalance between electricity production and consumption). It is used several time within a day for short duration.
Who can participate ?
1.
An asset PRODUCING OR CONSUMING ELECTRICITY.
2.
An asset able to MODULATE ITS ELECTRIC POWER WITHIN 30 SECONDS.
3.
An asset able to MODULATE ITS ELECTRIC POWER DAILY (at least for a specific period of the year).
How does it work ?
All assets answering positively to the above mentioned requirements can participate to this service through different ways:
- An asset consuming electricity will have to increase its consumption (FCR DOWN) and/or decrease its consumption (FCR UP) within 30 seconds.
- An asset producing electricity will have to increase its production (FCR UP) and/or decrease its production (FCR DOWN) within 30 seconds.

Your remuneration
Flexcity remunerates you for making your flexible power available to the grid: it is an availability remuneration.
You are remunerated for the additional security you bring to the power grid and your contribution to the energy transition.
